How to correct Mising Spelling ?
Mishing has been widely used to describe Mising community and has almost become most popular spelling! But MAK(Mising Agom Ke'bang) has adopted the Mising long back to describe both Mising Community as well as Mising language. Still many educated Mising people ( including myself till few days ago) as well as non-Misings use the incorrect spelling Mishing. But then if we Misings do not use the correct spelling, we may not be in moral high ground to criticuse others for using wrong spelling of Mising. The biggest challenge is to rectify the error. Here is my thinking:-
1. In the first step, we must ourselves start using the correct spelling first! We must start this on internet as internet is visible and accessible through out the world! Also accessible by internet means educated people! And again who would search internet to know about Mising ? Only the genuine people who are interested in knowing about Misings, its culture, language or history! So, we being "Misings on internet", it is our responsibility to provide any information on Mising correctly along with correct spellings!
2. We should not stick to the wrong spelling just because the wrong spelling has become popular or well known to all! In India as well as in the world, various wrongs have been corrected by people! Recently Bangalore has been renamed to Bengaluroo! So why cant we rectify our simple spelling mistake ?
3. I have written earlier about in a blog what we can do to try to correct the mistake. (Here is the link if anyone missed.) Apart from that, we can also start correcting our own spelling mistake in our previous writings! It may be trouble for buys people, but it is worth the trouble correcting a mistake.
The question arise now, if MAK adopted the correct spelling to be Mising long back, why did not MAK make it compulsory for everyone to use Mising ? Honestly, I have no answer to that! And I have not seen any effort by MAK to correct this mistake! ( Anyway, please do not get prejudiced, I have not been associated with MAK in anyway for last 15 years, so it may be my utter lack of knowledge.) I hope some people who have been associated or keeping track of MAK activities would put some light on it!
At the end, my humble request to all Misings is: lets correct the spelling of Mishing to Mising today, lets not leave this mistake to our next generation!

There was a genuine problem raised by one our members Mg. shekharmishing_silapathar in his comment on the blog ONE THING THAT WE ALL CAN DO rightly points out the spelling mistake on our caste certificate issued by ALL ASSAM TRIBAL SANGHA. AATS uses either Miri or Mishing in their certificates! Miri is supposed to be insulting word to Misings ( why and how, I am not quite clear). But the fact is, Indian constitution has recorded us Mising as Miri, and even RK Bordoloi wrote a famous novel with a name Miri Jiyoriin Assamese language. But the time has come to change the word to Mising. Here is my thinking how to go about it:
1. Using this forum, lets build an opinion among ourselves. Then we finalise an appeal letter to All Assam tribal Sangha, Mising Ba:ne' Ke'bang, Mising Agom Ke'bang, TMPK urging them to consider the change of Miri word to Mising and get is ratified in Indian Constitution!
2. Once we get any response from them or not, after say 3 months time, we send an email to president of India, Prime Minister of India about informing the insulting nature of the Miri word and urgent need to change it to Mising. The email may go to trash, but we should keep doing it till we get some reply.
3. Active support mobilisation from other Mising organisation meantime is a must. well, that is my thinking! I hope to hear few words by our members too!
